A special advanced screenprinting workshop with Squeegeeville’s Andy MacDougall. Sharpen your printing knowledge and skill as you complete a multicolor poster run project in this special 2 day class. Taking place the weekend before Flatstock 33 at SXSW, participants will get a chance to work on a variety of printing press set-ups including hand vacuum table, parallel lift one arm, semi automatic, textile carousel. Learn advanced techniques while producing your multicolor print run. We will cover separations, films, rubycutting and other hand techniques, screenmaking, multi-color setup & registration, split fountain & fine detail/halftone printing. This is a hands-on screenprinting course, working in one of Austin’s top screenprinting studios.

As this is an advanced class, participants should have some basic knowledge and experience with screenprinting, plus some art preparation/separation skills. All materials are provided, and participants will complete a multicolored print run of approx 50 posters, plus receive a copy of the best selling instruction book ‘Screenprinting Today, the Basics’.

- It’s official – I’ll be curating a full on Screenprinting Show at the Comox Valley Art Gallery from Sept 29-Nov 3/2012. Entitled Screenprinting: Ad, Art or Alchemy? We will fill the main gallery space with an incredible show that will feature prime examples of screenprinting that runs the gamut from leading First Nations and Contemporary artists through the best of the Rock Poster movement. Also included will be object and industrial screenprinting on skateboards, shirts, and an array of mechanical and electronic marvels that should challenge the myth that print is dead. This introductory Commercial Screen Printing training provides graduates with the fundamentals of theory and practical applications of this multi-use specialty imaging process. Training is for those creative individuals interested in learning to use screen printing and related equipment for graphic, textile and industrial applications. Industry communication skills and career awareness in the Screen Printing and graphics industry are an important part of this offering.

Learn the basics and then advanced techniques so you can print single and multicolour designs on garments on a 6 colour carousel press. We have a full professional screenprinting setup for manual garment decorating, inlcuding flash and conveyor dryer. We will also have a step and repeat table set up, so you can learn to produce yard goods on cloth or roll stock materials. We will use waterbased inks, plastisols, and textile dyes. NEW – We have completed our first 5 week course in Commercial Screen Printing in partnership with NIC on Vancouver Island, and have started setting up a well equipped working lab. We are currently in development of longer courses, ranging from 1 to 6 weeks, that focus on specific aspects of applied screenprinting. Introducing Screenprinting to your School (1 week duration, summer) - A perfect course for art teachers or graphics instructors that provides proven guidelines on how to go about introducing this amazing process to your school and your students – Updated methods and hands on training using waterbased inks for both textile and flat graphic printing. – Low budget solutions including making your vacuum tables and t-shirt jigs - Screenprinting as catalyst for entrepreneurial activities.  -Integrating computers with hands on artmaking.  - Capturing the imagination of the fringe students by producing t-shirts, posters, CDs, stickers, skateboards and more

Textile Printing courses (1 or 2 week) –   Receive a thorough training in Screenprinting Basics, and then concentrating on production of single and multicolour garments, step and repeat yard goods, printing different materials, working with waterbase inks, dyes, and plastisol. Working on manual 6 colour carousel, Flash cure, conveyor dryer.  Course would allow for students to work on their own realworld jobs and projects.

!st Nations Screenprinting (longer course)- Focusing on the creation and printing of first nations artwork on paper, wood, leather, garments, and more. Developing on reserve businesses based on production of cultural products.
