Well, the move is done and we have returned from Atlanta and the SGIA show. Lots to do getting the new studio in shape for the 2009 season of training and courses. Lots of calls and inquiries already - the new schedule will be up in January, but first we need to finish the installs and renos. We have a new Jaguar 2×3′ springlift and a Solar 360 exposing frame, but need to make a few mods to the basement where the new studio space will be located.

Although we will miss the old studio, the ‘new’ house (built in 1920, overlooking Comox Bay) is very cool, and so we will put up with the loss of our high ceiling workspace and figure out how to be a bit more troll-like down in the basement. What we do get in the new space is way more room for the framing operation, and we are going to slowly catalog all our prints and posters and make a small showroom in the formal dining room that came with the house but I doubt we would ever use.

Our location on the old Island Highway in the village of Royston, about 5 minutes south of Courtenay, will allow for some weekend artshows as we get more organized and Nancy gets the gardens going.
All in all, we are happy with the move - no regrets, onward and upward.

Sorry for not updating, but we have been busy busy busy, here at Squeegeeville.

Strong sales at the end of 2007 and the start of 2008 at TMI Screenprinting. We were in upstate NY installing a 4×8′ Jaguar airlift at Mercury Aircraft. From there, we went to the TOC Maquinas Industriales factory in Mexico to check on construction of another set of Jaguar 4×8′ press and matching 82″x153″ HD exposing frame heading to UPC in Madison Wisconsin. We also got a peak at the first production run or our new Rabbit Micro adjust clamp set, and these are now ready for sale from our distribution centre in Austin, or here in BC Canada.

We also visited Austin and SXSW music conference where we once agian ran a very successful demo program at Flatstock 16, the ginormous rock poster exhibition. After a week of great people, beer, BBQ and music, we were off to Madison to install the press at UPC. Amazing facility. amazing products - they make custom product and store displays.

Returning home, my wife and I have decided to sell our properties here in Courtenay, on Vancouver Island BC. 2 properties, side by side, older houses on each, plus the recently rebuilt studio, all on 1.25 acres in town. These will probably go to developers, (we want to sell both at once) but if someone was looking for a fully equipped screenprinting studio, with framing studio, and income producing rental house, and room to relax in a beautiful spot in the world, get in touch and I will hook you up with our Realtor. We live on a deadend street, perfect for kids, and if you like gardening…well, it’s a little slice of paradise.

If we do sell just the properties, I will be wanting to sell my larger format equipment as it will not fit into the new space. TMI Jaguar airlift 3′x4′ press, and exposing frame - I will entertain all offers, and let it go at a good price. http://www.tmiscreenprinting.com if you want to see the press, click on the video when you enter the site.

Classes at the studio are in full swing, and we have just added some in July that will take place at the Art Gallery in town. we are going to run one aimed at adults, and one at youth 10-18. Information and contact info is in the workshop section of this site.

That’s it for now. Keep smiling!

We have posted the dates for our small group ‘Intro’ training courses at Squeegeeville for 2008 in the ‘Training and Workshop’ section of the website.Take a look and pick a date, they fill up fast.

We will also be travelling a bit this year - come visit us at SXSW in Austin as part of Flatstock 16 and Bumbershoot in Seattle at Flatstock 18 - we will be printing live and producing posters.

Squeegeeville will also be revisiting Artopia and conducting a screenprinting workshop the last weekend in July. Taking place in the amazing island community of Sointula off the north coast of Vancouver Island, this was an incredible experience last year, we had a lot of fun and produced some great artwork over the weekend.

Remember, there are lots of openings still on the calendar, and we welcome private groups or individuals coming for courses or print training, or we will come to you. We are in upstate NY at Mercury Aircraft in February, and at UPC in Wisconsin in March, installing new 4′x8′ TMI Jaguar presses and working with management and printers to help them produce great work. Make 2008 the year you learn to screenprint better.

WE are pleased to announce that the Academy of Screen Printing Technology (ASPT) inducted TMI Screenprinting Equipment director and Squeegeeville principal Andy MacDougall at the recent SGIA 07 in Orlando.

“I’m blown away by this honor,” said MacDougall. “The academy members are a who’s who of world screenprinting experts, many of whom I have learned from through their articles and work over 30 years. To meet them in person at the ASPT luncheon was a thrill for me. I’m excited and proud to join Robert Bellemare of Montreal as the only other Canadian in this international group, and I look forward to participating with fellow members as we take screenprinting and specialty imaging into the future.”

Established in 1973 by the Board of Directors of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association, the Academy of Screen Printing Technology (ASPT) recognizes individuals who have contributed to the technical growth and/or advancement of the screen printing industry.

MacDougall was cited for years of dedication to the industry as a printer, teacher, innovator, and writer. His monthly ‘Shop Talk’ column in Screenprinting Magazine, and many articles in graphic trade and technical journals worldwide consistantly promote the screenprinting process, and his book, Screenprinting Today, the Basics, is fast becoming a valued teaching aid at many universities, colleges, and screen shops. Long a proponent of low tox printing, his innovations such as solar exposing and the use of waterbased inks have helped thousands around the world print better, faster, and safer. An active member of the American Poster Institute, he conducts demonstrations at API events to show people screenprinting in action, and his website Squeegeeville serves as a reference tool for people around the world.

ASPT Mission Statement

The ASPT is an international body of experts which honors qualified individuals through election to membership for their distinguished, long-term contributions to, and application and promotion of, screen and digital printing and associated imaging technologies for graphic, textile, industrial and electronic printing applications.

Academy members regularly submit, review, recognize and recommend technical papers for publications under the auspices of the Academy. ASPT members are also active in providing technical education, consultation, adjudication of printing image quality, and promotion of the technical and commercial development of the industry.

Check it out at sgia.org click on the ASPT logo at the bottom left.
